The Lux: November 2024
Here at the end of our second season, let’s reflect on all we’ve achieved together so far.
Since our start, we’ve had the privilege of compensating and collaborating with 28 talented actors, over 16 production team members, and brought in a nationally known guest artist. Each of these individuals infused our creative projects with the professionalism and dedication that defines Lumen Rep. We’re proud to have staged two world premieres in our first two seasons—SHAKESBEER and our unique adaptation of NO EXIT. And we’ve introduced Jacksonville to regional premieres like A SMALL FIRE and CADILLAC CREW, productions that sparked vital conversations and impacts beyond the stage.
We are grateful to be part of a city that has such a long and storied tradition of amateur, educational, and dinner theatre. For two years, we’ve been building the professional repertory element of that landscape. And you have been a part of it!
As the First Coast’s only fully professional, Actors’ Equity-affiliated nonprofit repertory theatre, we’ve made it our mission to invest directly in people. For us, supporting artists, designers, technicians, and production teams goes beyond a paycheck (though because of our relationship with Actors’ Equity, people who work with Lumen Rep can count on a fair wage). Investing in people is also about offering them time, space, respect, and resources to create work that resonates and puts Jacksonville on the cultural map. With every premiere, adaptation, and collaboration, we’re building a vibrant, professional theatre scene right here in our city—one that resonates locally and will draw attention nationally.
And there's more on the horizon. We’re about to unveil our subversive 2025 season, and I can promise it includes some game-changing news that builds on everything we’ve set in motion.
Stay tuned and keep shining, Lum(e)naries! The best is yet to come.
All my best—
Brian Niece
